bauma 2025 Reflects Industry Transformation: Electrification Booms, Hydrogen Energy Technology Makes Breakthroughs
As a global bellwether for the construction machinery industry, bauma 2025 (Munich International Construction Machinery Exhibition) concluded in April 2025. With the core theme of "sustainability + digitalization", the exhibition clearly outlined the industry's technological transformation path, with electrification and hydrogen energy technology becoming the focus of competition among global enterprises.
Electrification has seen explosive growth across all scenarios, with both international brands and Chinese enterprises making efforts. European enterprises focus on upgrading existing products: Liebherr launched the T264 battery-electric truck, Volvo Construction Equipment exhibited a full range of zero-emission products, and Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hitachi Construction Machinery, etc., all displayed electric excavators with a capacity of over 20 tons. Chinese enterprises, on the other hand, focus on incremental replacement: XCMG Group's new energy products accounted for 40% of its exhibited products, including the world's first hybrid all-terrain crane XCA60EV; Sany Group made its debut with 11 electric products such as the world's largest-tonnage pure electric crawler crane; and Zoomlion's zero-emission 9-cubic-meter pure electric mixer truck attracted widespread attention.
Breakthroughs in hydrogen energy technology were a highlight of the exhibition, with many enterprises launching commercial solutions. Wirtgen Group showcased the first green hydrogen-fueled burner for mixing plants; Hyundai Heavy Industries globally launched the HW155H hydrogen-powered wheeled excavator with a supporting mobile hydrogen refueling solution; Deutz launched the EU-certified TCD 7.8 H2 hydrogen engine; and brands such as Liebherr and JCB also exhibited excavators and loaders driven by hydrogen fuel cells, providing a new path for the industry's zero-carbon transformation.
